Operator and scope
This website is operated by Pavilionreelbiscut Heritage Limited, 36 George Street, Edinburgh, EH2 2LE, United Kingdom, company registration number SC824157. Contact [email protected] with questions about these conditions.
The register provides general educational information about historical costume conservation. It is not an object assessment, treatment proposal, health and safety instruction, valuation, authentication service or professional appointment. Reading the website or emailing the operator does not establish a conservator-client relationship.
Professional boundaries
Historic materials, previous treatments and contaminants can behave unpredictably. Do not infer that a method is safe for your object because a general process is discussed here. Obtain suitable professional advice and authorisation before cleaning, sampling, repairing, dressing or otherwise intervening. Follow applicable workplace, collection and cultural protocols.
We aim to provide clear information but do not guarantee completeness, continuing availability or suitability for a particular object, building or purpose. References and external guidance may change.
Using text and images
Unless otherwise indicated, the website’s original editorial material is protected by copyright. You may link to pages and use short attributed quotations where permitted by law. Reproduction of substantial text, diagrams or photographs requires permission from the relevant rights holder. Copyright exceptions and other statutory rights remain unaffected.
Ownership of a physical costume does not necessarily include copyright in its design, photographs, production artwork or related records. Obtain appropriate permissions before sharing material with us or reproducing it elsewhere.
Local worksheet
The contact worksheet creates a plain-text draft, copies text when permitted and prepares a downloadable file. It does not transmit an enquiry. You are responsible for reviewing the text, protecting local files and deciding whether to send a separate email. Device restrictions may prevent copying or downloading. Keep your own copy of information you need.
External references and independence
Links are provided for context and further reading. We do not control external websites, their availability or their privacy practices. Naming a collection, standard or professional organisation does not imply affiliation, endorsement or review. This website is independent of the institutions cited.
Responsible use
Do not attempt to disrupt the website, introduce malicious code, gain unauthorised access or use contact channels to send unlawful or abusive material. Do not send confidential records or personal data that you are not entitled to share.
Liability and applicable rights
To the extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for loss arising from reliance on general educational content as though it were object-specific professional advice. Nothing in these conditions excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Your mandatory statutory rights remain unaffected.
Law and changes
These conditions are governed by Scots law, subject to any mandatory protections available under the law applicable to you. Nothing here removes any right you may have to bring proceedings in a court available under mandatory law. Updated conditions apply to future use once published; they do not retrospectively remove accrued rights.
